Getting in the Spirit

The last couple of Saturday's have been lovely, Ive been busy crafting, I know! I can barely believe it myself!.

Been doing a few Christmas cards and making this little fella. Of course hes not quite finished yet.

Got quite a few more to make too. In fact BSIL and I are doing a swap. I'm making her 2 little gingerbread men for her tree and shes knitting me a snood. Not sure that its a fair exchange but hey, who am I to argue?! lol

Lots more other little things Id like to make too....next on the list once I'm finished these is a Christmas Star.

Last year she celebrated her 38th birthday by doing 38 Random acts of Kindness.

It's Beginning....

Ok hands up if you saw the coke ad on the tv at the weekend.

Its not Christmas (or at least we cant start the countdown in our house) until you see that advert.

The countdown has begun!...........

Over the weekend, I decided to make a few Christmas cards. Now trust me when I say Im rubbish at card making!! I can never think of any ideas at all.

So I had a little look around the internet (read that as mainly Pinterest lol, love that site!) and spotted this, a dimensional ornament card.

Simple but elegant, so I thought Id give it a try. Heres my version, not the best pic Im afraid as I took it quickly with my phone.

I had to use just my regular round punch as I didnt have the MS Starburst, but the effect is similar. Good way of using up some old papers or scraps too.

10 Things

Yes, finally got around to creating my list and taking part in Shimelles 10 on the 10th

So here goes, 10 things I love about this time of year:

(1) Halloween

I just love it! I love seeing the littlies all dressed up and excited about going out. Plus

when Halloween comes around, you know that Christmas will be just around the corner.

(2) Cold and Frosty Mornings

Believe it or not I love these, I love the smell in the air and the crispness. I don't, however, like de-icing the car at stupid o'clock

(3) The Warmth of a coal Fire

Just toasty on those cold nights, snuggling down on the sofa and in front of the fire

(4) Knitting/Crochet

This seems to be the main time of year when I pick up my needles. Seem to have more time to knit in the winter.

(5) Garden Centres

Yes, I know that sounds weird, but theres nothing I like to do more on a Sunday afternoon than have a browse around the garden centre. I love seeing the Christmas displays, lights and trees. Gets me in the Christmas spirit, albeit a bit early!

(6) Gingerbread Lattes

Tis the season for Gingerbread Lattes, yummy!

(7) Lucky Dip

I know a strange one lol. In our house we do lucky dip Christmas'. We put everyones (apart from the littlies) names in a hat and we all buy for that particular person. Saves money and works really well. Lots of fun too and this is the time of year we usually do the 'dip'

(8) Christmas Parties

The one time of the year that I actually go out more (if at home and not on holiday).

(9) The Smell of Cinnamon

Another odd one I know but I love walking into shops and smelling it in the air. Makes me feel all warm and fuzzy and gets me in the mood for Christmas

(10) Mulled Wine

Personally I love the stuff! All though I'm not really a drinker this is the one thing I do like. November/December seems to be the only time I ever drink it...Bonfire Night, Christmas, really any excuse!

Magazines

I'm a lover of magazines, however I'm nearly always disappointed in the content.

You know the thing, front cover looks amazing but the mag is wrapped in cellophane so you cant have a flick through before you buy. When you finally buy the magazine, get into it, minus all the packaging, its full of ads and the articles aren't really all that...or is that just me lol maybe I expect to much!

Anyway, yesterday I was lucky enough to receive a complimentary copy of the latest Docrafts Creativity magazine, courtesy of Emma.Wow!! I love it!

Way back, and I mean a few years, I had a copy of a Docrafts Mag whilst it was 'nice' I felt it was more a promotional thing rather than an actual crafting mag to 'ooh and ahh' over.

Not this little beauty! Firstly (and I'm not really a lover of gifts with mags, yes I know fussy as! but only because they're a) usually rubbish b) something Ill never use) the mag came with the cutest clear stamps, Me To You exclusive Christmas stamps. A pack of 10, 3 largish images and some wording. Seriously they are lovely and definitely something I'll use. Perfect for Christmas cards, if you make your own.

The front cover of the mag looked good and not just because it had a pack of stamps attached. The projects advertised looked interesting and I could wait to rip open the packaging to see the contents.I wasn't disappointed, oh no! From sewing projects, scrapbooking (paper and a digital article too), Photography hints and tips, to card making and even jewellery making.

The latter really interested me as there is a 'Back to Basics' article, not that I ever did know the basics anyway lol but it will be exciting (at some point) to put some of the instructions to good use and actually make something instead of my usual hoarding. Yes I have beads and wire too amongst my mountains of other stash.

Fancy embellishing a bag with a bead/charm for the party season? yep! there's an article featuring that too.

With 172 great makes as the magazine quotes, I think I can honestly say there is something for everyone, even the little ones (with help from a grown up)

Of course you've got all the regular articles like, 'Your Stories' Giveaway's etc but its just all the more of an excuse to put your feet up with a cuppa for that extra 5 minutes and that, to me, is a good thing.

So if you fancy a change and some 'feet up' time go grab yourself a copy of Docrafts Creativity, you wont be disappointed.

Me? I'm off to go and sort out my sewing supplies to make these cute Christmas Decorations, featured on the front cover!

Apple Crumble Muffins Anyone?

I love Spoons n Spades!

You may have heard me talk about it before and the Berries and Cream Cake recipe.

Paula posts some gorgeous recipes, with pictures I may add (its always good to see what it 'should' turn out like lol)

So today I thought Id share one of Paulas recipes that Im making this weekend ( seem to have an abundance of apples)

Apple Crumble Muffins (picture courtesy of Paula Sealy)

Grate 300g of eating apples (about 4 or 5 small ones) into a large bowl, and toss them with the juice of 1 lemon.

Add 200g of self-raising flour, 1 teaspoon of baking powder, 1 teaspoon of mixed spice and 125g of light brown demerara sugar and stir together.

Melt 100g of butter and lightly beat this with 2 eggs in a jug.

Pour into the bowl with the flour, and stir until just combined. Line a muffin tin with 12 paper cases, and divide the mixture equally among them.

To make the crumble topping, rub together 50g of plain flour and 25g of butter with your fingertips until you have a breadcrumb consistency.

Stir in 15g of light demerara sugar, then sprinkle the topping over each of the muffins.
Bake in a 180c oven for around 25 minutes, or until the muffins are golden and cooked.

Transfer them to a wire rack to cool, then eat as they are, or serve in a bowl with a generous drizzle of custard.

Great Day

The wedding has been and gone and what a fab day we all had.

Everything ran smoothly and it was fantastic to catch up with so many people. family and friends alike.

One of my favourite pics of the day is this one of my 4, Im so proud of them all.

Despite this picture being blurry, I still love it. Its my son and his partner with their baby and my other 2 grandbabies, arent they just the cutest.

Hubby and I are looking after C and R this week, so we went camping for a few days in Brean, Somerset.

Weve been going to Warren Farm since Matt was 2 (hes 24 now), we love it there and of course its fab for families.

The weather wasnt all that great but the littlies enjoyed themselves and thats all that matters.

Back to reality with a bump now though as Im back at work today, but on a positive note Im only back at work for a day and a half and its the weekend again......going to try and fit in some scrapbooking too at some point as I now have an abundance of photos!

Just A Quick Post

Its the big day tomorrow and I have lots to do, hasnt helped that Ive had tonsillitis this week so Im somewhat behind :(

Earlier this week Sam (my lovely DIL) asked me if I could sort a flower for baby Morgans headband.

Originally I was thinking Prima, but after a little search on the net and I found a tutorial from Kellianne who made a vintage inspired fabric flower ring, isnt it cute.

The flower is so easy to make and takes just a few minutes to stitch once you have cut the circles.

Havent decided on the button yet, blue or maybe white, plus havent stitched it onto the band but you get the idea....oh and the prima still snuck in lol

No thats not a Britney Spears impression.........my poor blog has been neglected somewhat, its a month since my past post.

As for crafting, havent done an awful lot, though did actually manage 2 pages, yes 2! last weekend. We had a mini crafting session at a friends, with a spot of lunch in between and it was so nice to just chill out, have a natter etc after what was, a very hectic week at work.

Unfortunately I dont have pics on this comp of the said layouts, but I will upload them tomorrow.

I really must sort this blog out its in desparate need of a re-vamp (and regular posts!). Though Im afraid thats not happening this weekend.

This weekend Bee and I are shopping for dresses (for her) and then its hen night, yay! Though a hen night with a difference as its not just for girls lol. Should be fun all the same, gotta love a Kareoke night :)

My daughter Nicola and her partner, Gemma, are getting hitched in just over 2 weeks. So I have a few bits and pieces to finalise and sort before the big day.

One of them being how to fix some flimsy feathers on to a flimsy fascinator without them breaking...answers on a postcard please (or you can just use the comment box hehe)

Right back to it, back tomorrow with my layouts.

They all came around for tea this afternoon, had a lovely afternoon, chatting, eating and watching a bit of Glastonbury on the box.

Made a Berries and Cream cake for afters (Gaynor, look away now!), recipe came from Paula at Spoons N Spades, gorgeous it was too.........before it collapsed in the heat LOL

Fabric Love

It must be easily 20+ years since I actually made a garment and then that was only some play trousers when the girls were small.

After my last post Ive been having another look on You Tube and came a cross a fab tutorial, well more than one lol

So, I followed it somewhat to create (if you havent already seen it on facebook) this cushion cover.

I made a couple of mistakes but as its my first attempt Im still pretty chuffed with it.

I stupidly cut a couple of squares to 5" but measured it with the label included, doh!

The pattern is a disappearing nine patch block. Real easy too. I followed this fab tutorial.

Also whilst having a route through my fabric basket I came across a Jelly Roll, one I bought a couple of years back, so tomorrow I shall be creating with that.

Moda Roman Holiday

Now I just have to decide what to create?! Thinking it could be the fence rail pattern, another quick and easy one.

Is anyone else loving the look of the new Smash journals?

Ive had my eye on these (and all the goodies that go with them!) for a while. So was very excited when I heard you could pre-order via their website, only to be massively disappointed that they are not shipping Internationally *insert sad face here*

Apparently we will have to wait until at least the end of summer for them to be released over here.

So for now Ive made my own!! Ok its not quite the same and I havent put anything in it yet LOL but it will do for now until I can get the 'real deal'. Then my problem will be which one to choose..........thinking the 'Pretty' (as above) or the 'Doodle', what the hec........ or both!

But Ssshhh dont tell hubby!!

Blog Hopping

Ive started blog hopping again, havent had much time to do it lately, what with crappy internet connections and working so many hours.

Found some beauties along the way though. Im loving Lous blog and her projects. The two that caught my eye immediately are these:

Prima April BAP and March ZVA Creative Blog Hop

The layout is stunning and I just loved the book pages, fab idea.

Another favourite blog has to be Cathys I love her style. However, I also came across this post about the beautiful lap quilts that she made for her grandbabies...........Love the colours/fabric. If I could sew Id have my house full of patchworks lol........probably just as well I dont LOL

I have to blame my BSIL for this but Im also slightly obsessed with Pinterest at the moment for all things pretty. What is Pinterest, well according to the new Iphone App:

Think of Pinterest as a virtual pinboard - a place to catalogue things and share the things you love. Pin anything that catches your eye: memorable meals, places to visit or great shopping finds!

Its so addictive, theres some fantastic craft/food ideas, pretty colour palettes, home goods, you name it and its probably on there somewhere.

National Scrapbooking day

Had a lovely time at Lornas crafty weekend, even if I did only stay for the day.

It was fab to catch up with everyone and I came away with a little something, well you have to dont you LOL.

Not that I want to wish the week away, but Im shattered and so glad the weekend is around the corner.

Gonna be a busy one too! but in a relaxed sort of way.

Hoping to go and see one of my lovely friends tomorrow (and catch up with a few more), Lorna. Shes having her annual Oct crafty weekend and when I say crafty I mean it. Lots of sewing, painting, scrapping, stitching, you name it, its all there.

Sunday is 'N's birthday, so it will be roast dinner and birthday cake.

Got the lil people on Saturday night, over night. So Im sure theyll be helping on Sunday morning to make mummys birthday a great one, lets just hope its not too early in the morning!

I know, its a bit early! but I like to be prepared.

We're planning a little party for the lil people.

I know that a lot of people dont 'do' Halloween (so apols if this offends), but we do, just for fun.

The lil people love getting dressed up (or down!) and all the sweet delights that they can get in their buckets.

So anyway Ive been looking online at simple recipes and fun things to make when this caught my eye

Sleepovers and scrapping

What a fab weekend at Jillys and I was lucky enough to be able to stay an extra day/night too.

It certainly rid me of a few cobwebs thats for sure.

Just a shame that Deb and Kirsty couldnt make it, we had fun but they were missed.

I got to play with Sheenas Ipad too, makes me want one even more :)

Also managed to do a fair bit of scrapping, which I was really pleased about.

This last one is a scrap lift from the hugely talented Izzy Anderson (sadly cant seem to locate a blog for her), which was originally posted on the Cosmo Cricket Blog.

Yay! I'm actually having some ME time this weekend. Off to my friends to catch up with some other friends, for a crafty weekend.

Got my stash at the ready (plus dinner and cupcakes), can't wait.

As promised.. Pumpkin Soup

Ingredients

1 Tbsp oil (I use Fry Light, just as good)
1 Red onion, finely chopped
8oz Carrots, peeled and sliced
1lb Potatoes, peeled and diced
1lb Pumpkin, peeled and diced
2 Pints vegetable Stock
1/2 pint of milk
1/2 tsp of ginger
Salt and Pepper
Cream for decoration (optional)

Method

Saute the red onion for a few minutes in a large pan or wok.

Add the vegetables, salt, pepper and the stock.

Bring the mix to the boil and then cover and simmer for 30-40 minutes.

Once cooked, leave to cool.

When the soup has cooled, liquidise in a blender and return to the pan.

Add the ginger and milk, re-heating the soup gently until hot.

Swirl some cream on top before serving.

See simple but delicious!

I am one of the worst bloggers ever!

Life gets in the way though doesnt it.

Im working full time these days so dont have a lot of spare time to do much else.

However, I have also been spending a lot less time on t'internet.

Yesterday it was just Bets and me, so we did some cooking/baking together, sod the housework!

We made some Red Velvet Cupcakes using this recipe, I thought it was fiddly tbh, but it paid off as the cakes are delish. These are, NOT my cakes pictures

We also made some Peanut butter and Jam cupcakes, oh my word, simply melt in your mouth (if you discount the crunchy bits on top LOL)

Thanks to Deb for the recipe, that girl is a baking goddess and shares some wonderful recipes.

We also made pumpkin soup, which we love. I'll share the recipe tomorrow

On the crafting front Ive managed one layout using some fabulous Echo Park Papers. You'll remember that I mentioned them in my last posting back in June, well since then they have gone from strength to strength and now have several collections out.

My fave at the moment is the new Halloween Collection. Have invested LOL, and now cant wait to use them.

Planning on doing a Halloween party for the little ones, so may even make a mini book....watch this space!

While I have a cuppa and contemplate doing my housework.

Been busy working so not enough hours in the day to do much scrapping. However last Sat I did sit down and create one layout with another on the go (who knows may finish that later)

I found some pics on my computer from a couple of years ago, 'Stinky' at the park rolling down the bank. Ok theyre not perfect, but do pics have to be, the whole point of scrapping is to record the memory, right?

Used some more of the lush Echo Park papers.

An Emotional Day

Well we did it! Deb and I walked the Race For Life, between us we raised approx. £300 in sponsorship, for Cancer Research, so very pleased.

The 3 mile race took us just over an hour, I have to say it was hard going in the heat but the funny thing was it was only my face that was hot, weird huh!

This was my first ever race and Debs 2nd.

I got to the sign that said 500m to go and started to blub, sop that I am, I just felt so proud of myself that Id nearly finished the race and for such a good cause.

This time last year, theres no way I could have done it with all the extra weight I was carrying, so yep! I think I have a right to be proud of us both.

I also have to say a huge thanks to everyone that sponsored us, Thank you.

Heres to next year!

Jolly Holiday

Stratford, as I said in my last post was fab, a relaxing break and a catch up with friends but it didnt end there.

Oh no, saturday saw me get home and finish packing for a few days break in Tenerife with my mum and sister.

My mum has an apartment at Tropical Park.

Theyd already flown out on the Friday, so I was spending Sunday-Friday with them.

It was the first time Id ever travelled on a plane alone, I did actually think that I wasnt going to make it at one point due to the ash cloud.

I was a bit nervous to be flying on my own, but my lovely brother (BSILs hubby) downloaded some films to my Ipod Touch for me last minute so I had something to keep me occupied.

4.5 hours later (and with a broken back tooth, darn mints!) I landed in a very warm and humid Tenerife. It was great to see my mum and sister.

This time of year and with the current naff rate of exchange, the complex was very quiet.

There are 2 pools at the complex, on 2 separate levels, one upper, one lower. Mums appartment is on the upper level (shown in the piccie, ground floor. so we literally stepped out of the apartment onto the pool area.

It was great to sit around the pool, swim, read and do absolutely nothing else. I felt very lazy, but enjoyed every minute of it. Wish Id had longer out there if Im honest. The time went too quick.

Sadly its back to work, work and more work (and slimming world eeek!!),my dental work is going to cost me £250!

So since the last time I blogged, Ive had a weekend with friends in Stratford and had a 5 day break in Tenerife. How lucky am I

Stratford was fab, as always and it was great to catch up with everyone.

Whilst there I managed 5 layouts! I even impressed myself LOL

Have to say 4 pic layout is my fave.

Last but not least, a layout I did a while ago but never got around to uploading.

Weekend Off, Yippee!

This weekend is my first one off for a few weeks and I cant wait! I can see me getting used to the not working on a Sunday milarky.

Having said that I have so much housework/washing to catch up on its unreal. Havent had a chance to this week what with my new job etc.

I think once I get myself in a routine it will work out really well. Tomorrow, Im having lunch (after Ive played a little catch up) with my oldest daughter and my grandbabys which Im really looking forward to.

Also planning to do a little knitting in the evening, need to get the back of my cardi finished.

Talking of knitting, I had this new pattern come through the post yesterday......well a girl has to treat herself LOL. (Im so generous to myself a whole £2.73!)

The pattern number is Sirdar 9073, cant wait to start knitting this one, the short sleeved version as pictured.

Blogs Posts Can Be Like Buses

Yep 2 blog posts in 1 day, get me!

Im taking a quick 5 mins before I start again. So much to do, so little time......

Still no paper crafting has been done, just havent seemed to have the time to get everything out to play.

However, I have started another project, something I can get out as and when I have a few mins spare.

More knitting! Im knitting myself a cardi (sounds very ala Pauline Fowler, doesnt it LOL).

I bought the wool a couple of weeks ago and then last week hubby bought me this pattern book.

Im knitting the cardi, short sleeved version, shown here.

Its done in a chunky, boucle wool (but doesnt feel chunky, if you get what I mean).

Im thinking summer nights can get chilly, hence the knit. Omgosh now Im sounding like my gran with the chilly nights thing LOL

Is there any hope! (no replies are needed, thanks LOL)

..regarding Google reader, I caught up with SJs blog and I have to say that girl is a total genius!

Apart from her fabulous musings and Freebie Digi Stamps on offer, she has started her very own Diet Diary, what better way to keep yourself on the straight and narrow.

So Ive been very naughty and snagged her idea. Does that make me a sheep. yea you bet it does LOL, do I care, No! not really.

My main reason for doing it is that Im in desparate need to get back on track with Slimming World and it would be awful to gain all of those lbs again, so, fingers crossed, Im hoping that the extra blog will keep me motivated.

Who wants it!?

My cold and cough that is! Im sick of having it now, just seems to keep lingering from when I had flu the other week.

However, the gorgeous sunshine made me feel heaps better today, it was lovely to wake up to the sun blaring through the window.

Lets hope it stays for a while!

On the scrappy front Ive done nothing, I know shocking eh!

However, I have suddenly discovered Google Reader (only had my Gmail account a couple of years LOL) and Im loving it. It helps me keep up to date with all of the blogs I follow rather than searching my 'favourites tab'

The best thing is it lets me know in an instant if a blog has a new post.

Ive also come across a few more sketch blogs and as you may know from previous posts Im a bit of a sketch lover!

My mojo that is.

Had a lovely scrappy afternoon/evening yesterday. Finished off a couple of layouts from the retreat (just the album to do now) and then did another layout.

You know you have to much stash when you find duplicates of papers and you cant remember buying any of the range in the first place.

Thats whats happened to me, going through my lovely Cosmo Cricket papers and discovered that I had 2 lots of Early Bird papers!

I mean they are really lush but 2 lots! So I used some yesterday on the layout I did and think I may make a mini book with them too.

I really must find the time to go through my stash, I have so many papers and I know that I wont use them. Ive hardly bought anything for nearly a year now and what I am buying Im using pretty much straight away, apart form the afore mentioned Cosmo LOL.

Talking of stash, I had a lovely Martha Stuart punch delivered from Sarahs Cards yesterday,a Mothers day present from my daughter, a little dinky butterfly, I love it and of course it got used yesterday on my layout.

No pics of my layout Im afraid as I seem to have mislaid my small camera, that or one of my girls has 'borrowed' it and forgotten to return it.

Have our crop this Saturday and Im excited about doing some more scrapping, havent felt like that in a long while.....but first cupcakes have to be made!

Has it really been a month since I last blogged!

LONG POST

Goodness knows where the time went.

However, I have finished my jumper (few weeks ago now), still have to sew up all the ends, but really pleased with how its turned out, photos will have to follow.

This last weekend, Deb, Karen and I attended the first ever Sarahs Cards retreat. What better way to catch up with your friends and spend some quality time together.

The retreat was absoloutely fab, Sarah and Lianne and the team did an awesome job!

Me? for once I was super organised and had all my scrappy stuff ready days in advance, so unlike me too! Mind you I did have Karen to help.

I packed several kits/projects to do but you know what, I never touched them! There were 6 classes on the retreat so that kept me busy.

I havent taken pics of my layouts yet, I know Im cr@p!

Its not fair to have favourites really but you know when something just appeals to you/your style.

They were all fab in their own right, but my personally faves that 'were me' were these ones (in no particular order):

This one is by Rachael Elliot, so pink and pretty, having said that some people took it upon themselves to do a blue version and the results were fab!

Next was my gorgeous BSILs class or should I say 'classes' as she did 2 layouts, love the 8.5x11 ages since I scrapped that size and thoroughly enjoyed it! (nothing to do with the fact shes my BSIL as she well knows)

Then theres Leannes, loved how this was created. The tree was made by using a 12x12Crafters workshop template, def a technique Id use again.

The other class I really liked (yes Ive yet to finish mine as in add the rest of my pics) was Cathy C's mini album, I loved this. the papers were kind of 'Love' themed but I didnt care as the colours match my Disney pics, so disney pics it is. With a few Disney embellies its going to look great.

Ive uploaded a piccie of Cathys Book but the piccie doesnt do it justice at all! as it was gorgeous.

As I said the retreat was brilliant and I'll def be booking again when they annouce their next one.

Massive thanks to everyone involved, for making the weekend so great.

Oops nearly forgot, special thanks to Tracy who gave me some personal tuition on flower making.....Tracy, thank you, for once me sieve brain has actually retained the info and will def be using the technique again.

the cardi that is and its knitting up nicely.

On the body now so hopefully have it finished this week.

Havent done much the last couple of days due to being tired. Never knit when youre tired as I learnt to my peril the other day ha!

Cast off a load of stitches for the armholes then realised Id missed a whole knit row out doh! so had to unpick it, which took some doing I can tell you.

The photo was taken quickly on my phone this afternoon and certainly doesnt do the colour justice. The wool is King Cole Homespun, Lagoon (shade 486)

Its a chunky wool knit on 8mm circular needles, have to say I do love it, just hope the darn thing will fit me haha!

Right off to make a start on getting piccies ready for the retreat, I could be gone a while!

Clackety Clack!

With my knitting needles, thats what Ive been doing.

However, the pattern wasnt working for me or more to the point I couldnt make head nor tail of it.

Im an experienced knitter, so patterns dont really prove a problem for me but this one, well! Im not sure if it was me or whether its because its a US pattern but it seemed to be all over the place.

I wouldnt mind but Id already done several rows before I realised it didnt look right.

Shame really as its a lovely cardigan - sorry cant show it to you as I dont have permission :(

For now, Ive given up on that until I can get someone else to look at it and give me their opinion.

So what to do with my lovely chunky wool??

Find another pattern and thats what Ive done, fingers crossed this one works ok.

By the way, I havent neglected my crocheted squares, have lots made and still doing them in between knitting of course.

Its the weekend!

Well very nearly.

Got loads of catching up on housework/washing to do, but tonight that can wait, have some more squares to crochet.

Have managed to do quite a few now and quickly too, so coming along nicely.

Poor scrapping has gone to the wayside for now, have tonnes of pics to scrap too!

Mind you I did have a little look through my albums the other day and had a real laugh at some, especially my early ones.

When I look back to last year I didnt do half as much scrapping as I thought I did.

However, I do have a couple of favourites from 2009:

A Little Bit of Crochet

I have the best BSIL After months of looking and admiring her crochet, I decided to give it a go.

I have crocheted, but years ago and dont even ask me what stitch, think I made it up as I went a long!

So who better to ask the basics than BSIL. She helped me do my first practice 'Granny Square' and then she wrote down all the stitches for me, turning chains and the difference between US and UK terms, she has the patience of a saint, I can tell you.

So anyway, armed with money in my pocket, I went in search of wool (wool shops are few and far between in this area these days) and crochet hooks.

First stop, Hobbycraft - way too expensive for my liking, as BSIL says, Im not (yet) a wool snob so happy with cheap and cheerful.

So off to another shop, this time locally. Cheap and cheerful was just what I was looking for and thats what I got (well when I say that it was a tenner for 4 100g balls and 2 hooks but still a good buy in my opinion), but in the colours I wanted, with the balls of wool being part wool/acrylic. Oh and her hooks were 50p cheaper too!

Heres what Ive made so far:

Pictures a bit bright, took it on my phone, but you get the gist.

Going for Aquas, Green and Cream. The darkish blue in the pic isnt as dark in real life, its more of a Kingfisher colour.

Once the squares have been blocked theyll be straight (BSIL said so!)

Not quite sure if these squares will make it to a blanket or a cushion, we'll see LOL but Im wizzing a long and loving it!

Another Year Older......

Thanks for all the birthday messages via text/email/facebook.

I had a fab day, well weekend really and was thoroughly spoilt.

As I said in my previous post, I had quite a bit of money to spend, so thought it would be rather nice to go looking in all the charity shops in town and then to the car boot on Sunday.

May not sound like fun for some but I really wanted to see if I could snag a bargain and get a few vintagy things for the house.

Although Saturday was a good day the only thing I got for the house was a lovely fruit/salad bowl.

For me, however, from the charity shops, I managed to get a brand new Next handbag for £6, a lambswool scarf for £2.50 and then I treated myself to a new pair of gloves from Accessorize.

Then Hubby and I went out for dinner in the evening.

Sunday was more fun, managed to get quite a few things at the car boot, though I have to say Im still smarting about the dresser I saw and ummed and awwed about! I wasnt convinced it would fit in the kitchen and hubby was the same....but it was only £20, do I dont I? I kept saying to myself, in the end I decided against it but was gutted when I got home and realised that it would have fit in the space we were thinking it would.

So hastily texted my friend and said if its there next week make sure that they buy it for me LOL

Managed to get a nice metal trunk which with a bit of paint will look fab. 2 Willow Pattern plates, the real deal, £1 for the 2 of them, I kid you not!

I also picked up a nice oval ovenproof dish for £2, but my favourite was a wicker basket for my wool (Ive started crocheting!), like this one

It was £8 down to £6 and not to be missed!

Plus I still have some money left, so very pleased.

After tea at friends, it was back home again to see my (not so) little grandbabies.

Theyd both bought me presents and cards bless them. 'Jimbos' card to me was a Thomas the tank Engine card, his favourite. He also bought me a necklace with the help of mummy. When I said thank you, he said 'Your welcome, can I borrow it cos I did buy it!' Couldnt stop laughing at that coming from a 3 year old.

'Stinky', with the help of mummy bough me a lovely night shirt.

After lots of laughter we had cake.

Its a standing joke in our house that theres no way Im having a 50th birthday. Once I reached 46 last year I said that Im going back the way now and shall just tell everyone Im 43.

Dont ask me why I chose 43, just seemed a good number at the time. Even had my sister wondering when she asked me last month, how old are you on your next birthday, to which I replied 43. She then looked at me very strangely and said, really? No you cant be and was stood trying to work out the math haha!

So back to the cake, you can imagine the laughter when hubby and the littlies produced this!

Gotta love my hubby sometimes

Ok so its not my birthday for a few days yet, but Ive had a few early pressies.

Mainly money so I could buy a few bits I wanted, arent I lucky.

First on my list was a Vintage glass cake stand, I know rather sad (according to some who will remain nameless!), but I wanted one all the same.

I had a browse via the net and came across this site: Re-found Objects

They are amazing and have lots of fabulous goodies on offer (will be my first stop from now on)

The website said designs may vary, but hey I wasnt fussed about the design, just wanted a cake stand.

Anyway, I ordered my glass cake stand Weds, recieved shipping confirmation Thurs and it arrived Fr.

Omgosh! I love it, its so pretty, as are all these. (pic courtesy of Re-found Objects)

Next on my list was a food cover and I found this one from Gisella Graham

The latest thing to arrive is totally non kitchen related LOL, its something Ive been trying to get for the last couple of weeks, had to pre-order it in the end.

Its Snowing.........

again!!

The novelty is wearing thin now and Im kinda fed up with living in, what seems very much like, Narnia!

This was work at 9am this morning:

Getting out this morning took 20 mins, with hubby and our neighbour shoveling the snow, just so we could get out of the car park.

Getting home was even more of a laugh and a half, NOT! I had a little altercation with some traffic cones and a hedge, but despite being a complete bag of nerves, survived intact, thank goodness.

Havent been able to check the car properly but at first glance we cant see any damage. Ive left it on the main road tonight, theres no way Im even attempting the the side road!

Hopefully when I wake up tomorrow am all the snow will be gone, well one can dream cant they.

This afternoon has been a lazy one, been too cold to move LOL I was planning on doing some baking but only got as far as making Chicken Tika Misala, a Slimming World recipe.........it was delish.

Off to snuggle up on the settee (yet again) in front of the coal fire and going to watch Most Haunted Live......does anyone else watch?

Belated Happy New Year!

Yea, I know, Im such a slacker when it comes to blogging!

Life (not to mention facebook lol) has literally gotten in the way.

Visits to family locally and in Devon, bowling parties for 3 year olds, work etc have all been and gone but weve enjoyed it immensely. Great to spend quality time with family and friends.

Weve also been re-vamping our kitchen and moving things around to make more room, which has been a job and a half, who knew I had so much clutter and it still isnt finished...but very nearly.

Next on the agenda is decorating our bedroom, have all the stuff to do it bar the paint, just need to find the time!

Scrapbooking hasnt even featured in my life since way before Christmas, is that a bad thing? Bonus is that Ive caught up on lots of things (see above) plus Ive been re-discovered baking and cooking. Forgotten how much I enjoyed baking.

I used to do it all the time when my gang were little.

Way back around Halloween time, I did baking with the littlies, we made chocolate chip cookies, they had such a blast. This is them showing off the results.

and then theres the traditional 'licking the bowl' ceremony' LOL Do you think 'Jimbo' enjoyed it!

The cookies were a hit too!

Ive been having a mooch around at different recipes etc and have a list as long as my arm to try out but this week, Im making this Mushroom Soup

Just what you need on these cold nights, good old fashioned comfort food.

I was absolutely delighted to be asked as I love 'Millions' and Jill the owner, she totally rocks!

I was sent a huge parcel of MME papers, Abbey Road which I loved working with.

Think The Dinosuar papers (Stomp Collection) was one of my faves, thanks to my friend Jilly for the pictures.

Just so happened we were talking dinosaurs (as you do lol) when she mentioned shed been to the Think Tank Science Museum with her grandchildren and had some piccies to scrap, so I 'borrowed' those from her to make this little tag book:

I like to stop by most days and check out the latest creations.

Another is Jills over at A Million Little Things, whilst the team dont blog everyday, they do post challenges, sketches, hints and tips. Quite often theres a giveaway too, so well worth a look.

Another, which I only discovered today, thanks to Jill is a blog called Inspired Blueprints Its a sketch blog (yep, told you I loved sketches!) and its awesome, definitely worth a look.

Yep! I am!

Life has got in the way somewhat (wont bore you with the details) and blogging (not to mention scrapbooking) was put on the back burner, so to speak, for a while.

However, Im back now and have been scrapping once again. Nothing I can share at the the moment, but soon.

Not scrapbooking for months is strange and even stranger when you come to do it again, its like youve almost forgotten how.

Although I havent used sketches for my most recent projects, to keep me inspired/ inspire me some more, Ive been looking around at some of the fab blogs on the net and their sketches and thought Id post a couple of my favourites.

I love the simplicity of this first sketch, which is from Pencil Lines

This weeks inspriation was this lovely picture

Lots of inspiration to be had just looking at it, sunset, colours, balloons etc.

In the end I settled, in the main, for the colours.

These piccies (plus more) of hubbys stay in China, should have been scrapped long ago. Who knows may get around to scrapping some more soon.

The little discs are small coin embellishments with chinese writing on, donated by my friend Karen hehe.

Papers are a mix of OA Cherry Hill and MME, on Dotted Swiss Cardstock.

Very plain and simple, but me!

No Scrapping.........

in sight the last couple of days.

Been trying to get my scraproom tidied up. Came back from the retreat and just dumped everything in there. Though the good news is wont take me long to do.

Keep meaning to find the time for a purge, but just cant face it, anyone else like that?!

So what else have I been doing.

Well been trying to get a bit fitter, no laughing! Cant spare the money on the Gym right now due to hubbys impending redundancy, so he bought me a Wii game instead LOL

Well not a game as such, this:

Oh yes, my very own personal trainer in a box haha!

EA Sports Active has a 5 star rating on Play.com, which kind of swayed hubby in buying it.

It features a wide variety of activities that target upper body, lower body, as well as cardio, cant be bad eh!

Well unless youre hubby or me, he tried it first and then hobbled around for a couple of days complaining about his stiff knees hehe.

Me? Well lets just say Ive started the 30 day challenge and I have never felt so knackered. OK I know, Im really unfit, but blimey! However, having finished the first day I can honestly say, now its over, I enjoyed it!

BUT and its a big BUT, Im not sure I can manage every single day, I will be in a big heap needing an oxygen tent, by the end of next week haha! Yes I really am that unfit!

So, my plan is to do every other day and tone up all or most of the bits that need toning up.......watch this space!!

Coffee and scrapbooking do not mix!

As I learnt to my cost (why dont I use my cups with lids???)

So whats a girl to do, Scrap Schemes is due, I have no layout? whilst thinking about what to do, I have another disaster, oh yes! I crack the screen of my mobile phone by dropping it, its only a little crack but still, I was so annoyed with myself.

So I decide I need a little case to put it in LOL

With that in mind and the inspiration for this weeks scheme being this gorgeous cushion

I come up with this little pouch, now yes I know its simple and probably took me all of half an hour (if you dont count the endless times I tried to stick the felt flower together, without much success until I decided on DST) but I didnt want to let the team down by skipping.

For the record, I have blanket stitched for about 30 years!! haha so not a bad effort on my part.

On the other hand, its given me a great idea and one that 'Stinky' can do in the summer holidays, which are looming. She loves crafting of any kind and will love making a few things with me.

It really was, mind you the retreat seems so long ago now.

Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves and we all met up with old friends and made new ones along the way.

Havent seriously laughed that much in ages and I wasnt on my own either LOL.

Missing everyone now though *insert sad face here*

On the plus side, we all enjoyed it so much that we're doing it next year again too, cant wait.

Retreat Week

Yep, its retreat week and I have to say I am getting rather excited. As 'stinky' would say only 2 sleeps! LOL

Still a few tincy wincy little things to do, but nothing major.

So while Im away, Im obviously not going to have time to blog (not that Ive had time recently anyway). However, normal service will resume next Monday.

Scrap Schemes 19 is now live.

Our inspo was this fabulous wall art:

I decided to go with the shapes rather than the colour as I like to try and use up photos I have at hand.

Been wanting to scrap this pic for ages. Its of a little metal garden couple that I spotted in my mums local garden centre, down in Devon.

Really cute and I fell in love with them, but not so much so that I wanted to part with £60 for EACH one!

By the way, did you know Scrap Schemes are looking for new DT members?

You will only need to commit to produce one project each fortnight - Scrap Schemes are of course looking for scrapbookers, but would also love it if card makers, altered artists and other crafty peeps applied too!!

Other than that Im a rubbish blogger of late.....but in my deffence (yet again) Im still busy with retreat stuff.

Mind you nearly finished now, Yippee! In 10 days time I will be off to the hotel with the view to a little R&R but I know Id be kidding myself if I thought I was gonna get it LOL.

Still its all good fun and I get to spend a little time with a few friends too.

Havent done any scrapping either other than my DT project for Scrap Schemes, not really been in the mood if Im honest.

Had a lovely email today, so my scrapping hat will be going back on in readiness *wink*

Wasnt the weekend weather just gorgeous! I had a lazy housework kind of day on Saturday which was nice. Sunday hubby and I met up with friends and went to a couple of car boot sales, something that we havent done in a long while.

We left at 7.45am and got home at 5pm!

We had a fab time though, picked a few bargain books too. I was supposed to be looking for a book that I can use in one of Ness' classes at the retreat. Not a chance!! Oh I bought a few old books, but nothing I would feel comfortable with altering.

It doesnt matter if the pages are falling out I still cant bare to part with the book, sad but true.

Must have a sort through and upload a few of my finds.

Weekend of Crafting

What a better way to spend a weekend, crafting, fun and laughter.

Yep thats how our weekend was in Melton Mowbray, we had a blast.

We did some lovely projects too, thanks Jo, Maz and Lorna.

Lorna is an amazing friend and I love her to bits. Shes kind, generous and always thinking of others.

(not just because shes making me a quilt either! LOL)

The only sad thing is that I dont get to see her as much as Id like due to her living so far away.

Did I mention that Lornas also hugely talented?!

Look what she made me, I love it!

2 weeks since my last post!

In my defence have been extremely busy. Our retreat is looming and we're busy behind the scenes sorting out classes, challenges and the like, its all go.

Easter was nice and relaxing though not sure where the weekend went, it flew by. My niece and her partner came to visit which, as always, is lovely and little Olivia is growing so fast.

Then we went over to see some friends on Monday, havent seen them in a while so it was great to catch up.

Havent had a chance to Scrap, ooops I lie!

Took the most fab class, taught by my dear friend, who by the way, just happens to be the most uber (is that a word?) talented person I know, Michelle (the art tart) at our crop on Sat, lots of cutting LOL but the finished project was worth it.

Poorly sick!

Thats how we feel in our house right now.

Ive got bad sinusitus and fluey symptoms (tho the hot flushes I keep getting could be hormonal LOL) and hubby is fluey with dizziness.

He must be really sick as hes been off work for 2 days, plus hes spent most of that time in bed, totally unheard of for him.

Thankfully I managed to get my Scrap Schemes done before the wedding and this bug.

Scheme 17 went live today and our inspiration was this gorgeous umberella (ella, ella!)

Love the colour! so decided that was my theme, using Basic Grey Offbeat papers, I came up with this:

Weekend Away

Well not quite a weekend, but it was nice all the same.

Friends of ours, Pete and Melissa, got married on Saturday in Warwick.

It was a fab day and of course the bride looked stunning, so did her bridesmaids.

Although Warwick is only 45 minutes down the motorway from us we (or should I say, hubby did) decided to make a weekend of it and stay over at the hotel where the reception was being held.

Whilst the Lord Leycester Hotel isnt the best in the world, it was ideal for a one night stay. The price was reasonable and it included breakfast what more can you ask for.

We finally got back just before lunch yesterday. It was nice to get away and Im glad we did.

Got to use my new camera too, though havent had a chance to look at all the pics properly yet. The one above is courtesy of Lissas friend, Shaista.

In between looking at pics, I have a tonne of stuff to do. Got my Scrap Schemes DT assignment done tho, thankfully.

That should go live tomorrow or Weds, so keep checking back.

Been so busy this week (doing what? I dont know) that I havent had a chance to update my blog.

Last weekend was great and it was fab to catch up with everyone in Devon. My step-dad is still unwell, but fingers crossed he gets sorted very soon. He was so unwell on Sunday that he gave dinner out, a miss. A real shame, but I think mum, even though missing 'E' still enjoyed her day all the same.

Got to see my niece and her family too which was lovely. A while back I decided to make 'J' a pressie for mothers day, as it was her first. I snagged a piccie from Facebook and did this little canvas.

Oh and my mum loved her canvas too.

Over the weekend I also did a bit of creating, one I cant share til later (*toot*) but this one I can share.

Off to take a look at my camera manual now LOL, hubby bought me a new camera 2 weeks ago and its still in its box!!

Mothers Day Weekend

Not been doing a lot the last couple of days, apart from housework and working on something Im doing for my mum for Mothers Day.

Off out tomorrow for lunch and a scrappy session with friends which Im really looking forward to.

Sunday Im off to see my mum in Devon, havent seen her since before Christmas, how shocking is that!

We're taking my parents out for lunch, which is how it should be on Mothers Day, cant have my mum slaving over the cooker (which, by the way, she loves doing when she has family around)

So How Was Your Weekend?

Mine was great, just ended all to quickly.

Friday evening we went to 'stinkys' Ballet Show, it was so good and of course she looked so cute.

Saturday was 'stinkys' 5th birthday, cant believe shes 5 already *sigh* and she had another ballet show, so wasnt around too much until the evening when she had a sleepover at ours.

I went out for dinner with some old work friends for a meal, natter and good old catch up, which was fun.

Sunday we were up and out of the door, madam in tow, as we didnt spend much time with her Sat. She was thoroughly spoilt with McDonalds for lunch, chocolate, not to mention birthday cake.

Hubby and I had a good look around town, just because, then went over to PC world for a gander.

Had my eye on the touch screen music player, like an Ipod Touch but a lot bigger, very cool, one day (when Im rich haha, which wont be this year!)

Consequently having been out all weekend, didnt get much housework done, house looks like a bomb site so thats what I'll be doing later this evening, trying to clean up.

Over the weekend, the new DT at 52 Sketches was announced, congrats to all the the girls chosen, looking forward to seeing their creations.

Talking of which, this weeks sketch is really nice and I cant wait to get started on it.

While browsing also found this one that I love.

Fancy Pants

Has anyone seen the new Fancy Pants goodies trickling its way into stores, its fab!

My favourite has to be the new Krat Kuts, yum! yum!

So guess what?! I broke my stash diet and bought a couple of sheets, I know very naughty of me.

BUT Ive used a bit already, I know can you believe it haha.

Mind you still got lots of cute little die-cuts left. Trouble with this stuff being so cute, I dont want to use it all, BUT I will.

So heres what I did, love that little bird.

OOhhh just looked at my piccie and somethings going on with my pink ric-rac, will need to fix that, darn tape!

I heart Craft Blogs

I suppose Im lucky to have grandmothers/mother, both of which were/are home makers.

They could/can cook, sew, knit etc. In fact my paternal grandmother was a seamstress in her youth.

Had a chance to go to Paris by all accounts, but met my grandad and the rest, they say, is history.

Me? Yep some of it has rubbed off (though I dont bake as much as I used to when the kids were little) and I love crafts, though Im really naff at making cards!

My mum taught me to knit when I was 18 and pregnant with my oldest daughter. She also tried to show me how to sew (but she didnt have much patience with me and nor me with her, but then I was only about 11) I eventually mastered the sewing but only simple things.

Trousers for my girls, those were the days. I bet the girls are just glad I dont have photos to prove my sewing skills LOL

Then there was the cross stitch which I love, but it doesnt grow quick enough for me.

I love scrapbooking and have been a scrapper for 5+ years. However, that doesnt stop me hankering after a change now again whether it be picking up my Knitting needles, or something else.

Inspiration comes in many forms, but my fave has to be 'blog hopping' and seeing what others are creating, or reading 'how to' tutorials.

So with this in mind, Im posting my fave blogs of the day and you never know you may find one out there that inspires you.

The first one is lovely friend of mine, Lorna, who despite what she says, is very talented at practically everything, but especially sewing/cross stitching. She is superwoman when it comes to making patchworks, seriously!

.....Just while dinner is cooking.

Had a busy weekend, out with the girls last night to Frankie and Bennys, which was fab. The food was delish too, yum!

Been finishing (yes I know Ive said it all week LOL) my scraproom and finally its done, Yipee!

Its looking lovely and tidy, for how long I dont know LOL, but it looks good now and thats what matters.

Will take some pics tomorrow, took some today but they are all blurred and pants.

The pics of my layouts arent much better, but its all I have for now.

I dont know, the days seem to be rushing by.

Havent done too much this week either really.

Did pop over to BSILs last night, did 2 layouts too. One within an hour, got to be a record for me LOL.

It was great to catch up, as its a while since Ive seen her. I know she only lives a couple of miles away but with us both working we seem to be like ships that pass in the night.

Sarah always inspires me, as she always has some crafting project on the go, check out her blog for her latest offerings.

Havent taken pics of my layouts yet, but wil upload them tomorrow with my fave sketches of the week.

Have to get cracking on my Scrap Schemes project this weekend. Its a toughie for me this week so was wondering what I could do, but found the perfect pictures. Some that Ive been meaning to scrap for a while.

Just need to find the right papers now, and according to hubby, it apparently 'wont be difficult' LOL what does he know, just cos you have a pile of papers doesnt mean to say you have the right ones does it?!

Bluergh!

What a real crap start to the week we had, what with one thing and another, it never rains but it pours.

Still waiting for Bettys appointment to come through from the hospital too, talk about slow!

Anyway enough moaning. Did have a nice evening with Deb the other night, I went along to Slimming World with her.

It was an absolute hoot and really so much fun. So I decided to investigate further, well Im not doing much cop on weight watchers lately, and decided last night to join.

Ive joined a class local to me but think Im going to join Debs class as its a bit more friendly.

Literally walked in the door and everyone was so nice, unlike the class last night.

So wish me luck, though I feel that determined I shouldnt really need it.

As far as scrapping goes, not done a thing since last week, yes Im still finishing off my scraproom.

I know I said it wouldnt take long but I havent had the time this week to put the last few bits away. Blimey do you know how long it takes to sort brads!! Keep finding the damn things everywhere, in packets, loose, you name it.

Of course, mine are all sorted in colour in my Craft Mates boxes, so its taking time to do it and find space for others.

While sorting I found these brads, forgot Id bought them to be honest. Arent they cute.

Where Did the Weekend Go?

I dont know, it seemed to just fly by for me.

Mind you I was very busy. Saturday saw me tackle, and when I say tackle I really mean it, my scraproom.

It was ssssoooo bad in there I kept looking at it and simply not knowing where to start with the tidying and putting away.

You wouldnt believe the unopened packets of things, brads, chipboard and my rub-on draw is full to bursting!

Hubby put up my extra shelves which helped, at least I could start putting things away in the storage I bought months ago (yes Lorna, they are finally out of the packaging LOL).

Thanks heavens for husbands and Ikea, I say.

These are the Spice Jars I bought a while back, these contain my little paper clips, book rings etc.

Proper bargain too, 4 for £1.95

I also stocked up on a couple more of these when I bought the Spice Jars. These larger jars contain my buttons (though I do have one larger one with odds of ribbon in too)

You certainly cant complain at the price, under £1 for each jar.

Anyway, still havent quite finished yet (havent even started purging my copious amounts of paper) but it will be finished this week, might even upload a few pics. Just thought should have done and before and after photo haha!

Sunday was a busy and very noisy day, but a fun day. My brother and his 3 kiddies came over for lunch, then it was Wii play time.

My niece, her fiance and their new baby also popped over on their way home. Its the first time Ive seen their new baby girl, Olivia May, shes 10 weeks old and utterly scrumptious.

BUT, I got so wrapped up in the visit and cuddling that I totally forgot to get the camera out, call myself a scrapbooker *sigh*

Never mind, hopefully it wont be too long until we see them again.

Managed to use my scraps of Cosmo Cricket 'Oh Joy' too, got just enough for one more layout then anything smaller than 2" is going in the bin hehe.

Scrap Schemes 14

Scrap Schemes 14 is now live on the blog.

This week we had to take inspiration from an advertising poster.

Whilst I really like the colours, I wanted to take inspiration from something else. After seeing the woman in the ad, knew exactly what I was going to do.

Think hat and coat, think cold!

Well how could I resist such a cute picture, it was asking to be scrapped.

Also combined my latest mantra of 'use up your stash'.

Used the following: Papers are My Minds Eye, Autumn Leaves Buttons, Hero Arts Snowflake Bling, Making Memories Date Sticker, Doodlebug Sugar Coated Alpha, Journaling strips are a combo of Crate Paper and Bazzill Dotted Swiss card.

Still waiting for SS14 to go live then I can share my layout.

So in the meantime, Ive uploaded a picture of one of my Gift Pouches that I made using the tutorial from Pink Petticoat, as per my last post.

I even managed to use some 'older' stash, papers are Junkitz. Id forgotten how much I liked these papers, thats the trouble when you have boxes of the stuff.

Been scrapping 6 years and still have papers from then....time for a purge of those very old papers, me thinks!

Its amazing what you can find inpsiration wise when blog hopping.

I have to admit I am a 'reader' of a certain blog, which brought my attention (in a GOOD way) to this site, Pink Petticoat.

There are some lovely cards, hints, tips and bits and pieces on the Pink Petticoat blog.

Im not a card maker at all, completey naff at it, truth be told, but these little gift pouches caught my eye and theyre such a simple but fab idea.

The instructions can be found on the blog and they literally take minutes to make.

So thats what Ive been doing this evening, will try and upload some pics tomorrow.

I Scrapped!

Had a bit of a hectic week, my daughter has been very poorly again so no time to blog etc.

However , I did finish Debs mini book in between waiting for phone calls about test results etc.

Ive kept it plain and simple as thats how Deb likes her pages, but Im pleased with the way its turned out.

I used quite a few bits of Xmas stash that Ive accumulated, well no point in having it if you arent going to use it is there!

Used prima flowers, bling on some pages and even a jolees on this page.

The papers, sentiments and journaling card are all Cosmo Cricket 'oh Joy', love their papers.

I also managed to get my Scrap Schemes project done too, but cant upload that until it goes live.

Whislt I was away in December/Jan I missed Scheme 11, though still did the layout.

The inspiration was taken from this bed linen pic.

I did another fairly plain and simple layout but thats how I like them.

Papers are SEI Dill Blossom, cardstock is the gorgeous Bazzill Dotted Swiss.

Happy Tuesday

So how was your weekend?

Mine was busy and fun but sadly ended all too quickly.

Guess what! didnt even have time to do the sketches I posted, I know shame on me.

However, I did start a Christmas mini book for Deb. So Im cracking on with that at the mo.

It was supposed to be a Christmas present for last year, but I didnt get around to starting it, you know what Christmas is like, busy, busy.

Anyway, its better creating it now as I know roughly what pics she has to put in it, so can add a few appropriate embellies etc, if you get what I mean.

Im still going to do the sketches and promise to upload them here when I do though.

Ive been busy today sorting out 'things' for the Scrapajack Retreat that is looming. I know, its not til May, but it will be here before we know it.

Had a lovely chat with Sarah from Sarahs Cards today too. We've spoken via message boards etc but never in real life, she is just so sweet (not to mention very generous hehe)

Loving her kits too and her new DT is doing some fab work.

Mind you I have to say that as BSIL is part of the said new DT (just kidding Sarah!)

Talking of my BSIL, have you seen the gorgeous blanket that shes just crocheted, it really is a stunner. That girl has endless talents, seriously.

Snowy Day And Scrap Schemes13 (Long Post)

Woke up this morning at 6.30am to lots of snow.

How fabulous is this!

I had the day off thanks to my very generous boss, so we got up had brekkie and went out and took some pics.

We then went for a play, with the grandbabies.

We had a blast, we had snowball fights and built a 'Mrs' Snowman much to the kids delight.

Oh nearly forgot Betty also built the Snow Cat V2 LOL

All in all a great family day.

Yesterday saw Scrap Scheme 13 go live, our inspiration this month was taken from this blouse:

I have to admit I did struggle with this for one reason and another. So I went for the Black and White theme again, boring I know, but I do like black and white layouts.

Whod have thought that a few snowflakes, ok maybe more than a few snowflakes LOL, would bring England to a stand still.

In truth, its reported that an estimated six million people skipped work on Monday when the largest snow storm in 18 years, hit London.

There were no tubes, no buses, nada!

Instead children were building snowmen in gardens, and the usual noise of peak-hour traffic became a magical quiet as the British capital disappeared under a mantle of pristine powdery snow

What did we get??

Just a light sprinkle thats all!

Now dont get me wrong, I didnt want snow so I could have time off from work, I wanted snow so we could have fun in it like everyone else, so to say I was disappointed was an understatement.

We rarely get snow these days, so when it does come, I like lots of it, just like my friend Lyn got in Hertfordshire:

Even my friend Lorna got more than us and she lives in the Midlands too:

Still, not to be outdone by all the snowman builders out there and using what little snow we did have, Betty came up with this instead: Our very own Snow Cat!

Isnt it great! LOL

I managed to stay up for some of the Superbowl, but just couldnt stay awake for it all......its on til the early hours here.

I managed to stay awake for the 'Boss' and the E Street Band who rocked in half-time

Have since found out (isnt google amazing! LOL) that the Pitsburg Steelers are the champs, to be honest I thought they would be.

Anyway, whilst watching I thought Id have a look and see what was on my Fuji camera. Blimey got loads of pics on there from Florida that I didnt know I had, must put them all on disc at some point.

This one really made me laugh (it probably wont you though)

Yep we went to visit the legend site that is 'Spook Hill' located on the Lake Wales Ridge.

This place generates thousands of visitors every year - why?

Well legend has it that many years ago an Indian village on Lake Wales was plagued by raids of a huge gator. The Chief, a great warrior, killed the gator in a battle that created a small lake. The chief was buried on the north side. Pioneer mail riders first discovered their horses laboring down hill, thus naming it "Spook Hill."

The road was paved years later and residents found their cars would roll uphill by themselves. Word spread and others came to test this phenomenon. Soon it became a major attraction for visitors.

Is it a weird phenomenon, optical illusion or the unrest of spooky spirits? Well, the legend is that it's spooky spirits

We never laughed so much in ages, try as we might nothing happened (apart from Em getting chatted up by some biker passing through)

Honestly we must have looked like proper loonatics standing on the side of the road, watching the car first go up the hill then down (driven, not in a spooky way! LOL) several times.

The lads think its an optical illusion, well if it is us girls didnt notice it!

Havent got too many pictures from Spook Hill but think a layout is a must, just to record the day and the fun we had.

Busy Creating!

as well as creating a mess, Im creating a few bits and pieces.

Currently doing my Scrap Schemes DT layout, so no peaks yet.

Keep checking back though as it goes live Tuesday.

Cant wait, then why not check out Scheme 12 which is currently live, awesome work and inspiration from my fellow teamies.

So anyone watching the Superbowl this weekend?

Not sure if I will be, but would like to.

Whilst in Florida, we were lukcy enough to go to an NFL game in Miami - a playoff, Miami Dolphins v Baltimore Ravens.

It was packed, this is only a couple of views of the stadium. Look at that sea of colour!

The atmosphere was incredible, not to mention the organisation of the whole event. The NEC could definately do with a few hints from the US event organisers thats for sure.

People, some with families, some with their friends, made a day of it, packed up their barbeques and had get togethers in the massive car parks.

There were Raven fans, obviously, as well as Dolphin fans, all intermingled and not a bit of trouble, the fans took it for what it was, a game.

Boy was it hot that day. 90 degrees at least phew! So had to buy a Dolphins cap (thats who we were supporting) to shade from some of the sun.

At first I found the game hard to follow, but (sods law) was just getting the hang of the rules of play when the game ended, sadly the Dolphins lost, but it was a fantastic experience and one that we'd all like to do again.

Maybe one day, who knows......

Im Back!

Im back!

Thanks for all the lovely birthday wishes, I had a fab day on Saturday and in the evening.

Had the most lush pressies too, money, CDs, chocolates, flowers, a top and a gorgeous wrap cardi.

Went and did a little shopping with my birthday spends on Saturday and treated myself to this:

Oh and bought the Maraca casings too!

Deb and Tony came over for a gorgeous roast lamb dinner in the evening, cooked by hubby, then it was on to the playing the Wii.

Gotta love that console! Best thing we have bought in years.

The Samba game is quite good, would say its more of a fitness thing (helps to get rid of bingo wings thats for sure LOL) but still a good laugh trying, especially the poses.

If youre gonna buy it best place to go would be Play. as its £7 cheaper than I paid at Game!

So after a wonderful evening, I woke up at around 5am Sunday morning with the dreaded lurgy! A sickness bug, gross out!

Was ill all day with sickness and trotting to the loo (I know tmi) and wasnt feeling much better yesterday.

Felt totally exhausted and ached all over (though some of that couldve have been Wii related)

Better today though, thank goodness.

Now playing catch up.

Belated Happy New Year!

Yep Im late but hey life got in the way LOL

Had a absolutely fab time in Florida, well with the temperature between 75-83 degrees most days who wouldnt!

The villa was amazing and for the first week, we lounged around the pool area and the like relaxing. Even managed to read 2 books, which was really nice.

Christmas day was a fab day. We all had stockings this year lovingly filled by Santa Debbie.

Lunch was courtesy of Tony and Dave the Christmas Chefs and we had a feast.

We had turkey and all the trimmings as per usual but there was no Christmas pud in sight, just a delish strawberry cake and petit fours, yum!

Christmas early evening we did the traditional cinema thing, which I totally love. Why cant the cinema open in the UK Christmas day evening, beats the naff repeats on the box, thats for sure!

Anyway, we went to see the new Brad Pitt movie

'The Curious Case of Benjamin Button' .

Whilst the film wasnt fantastic (mainly because it was dragged out) the CGI effects depicting Benjamin when hes younger, are good and well what can you say about Brad Pitt but Phoar!!!

What else did we do over the holidays? Oooh tonnes but I'll save that for tomorrow ;)
